Coaches Skate for Kids
It was such a big hit a couple of weeks ago we are going to do it again!! It will be Sunday, January 29 from 8 – 10 pm in the Lichtscheidl arena.
We will charge $10 per skater. All funds will go towards a program to educate our skaters on body contact. All adults that have USA Hockey registration (paid $40) for 2011-12 are welcome to join us the on ice that evening.
Please take a look at the pictures we posted from the last Coach Skate Evening. You might find a reason to come out and cheer on (laugh out loud at) some of our coaches!!!!
The association has decided to not take Jack’s Pledge for numerous reasons discussed at the board meeting on Sunday. While we support the efforts being made to make hockey safer including stricter enforcement of penalties and increases in there severity, we believe these efforts are needed at the MN Hockey level. What we feel we (FLHA) can do to honor Jack’s Pledge and help keep our kids safe is to promote an education program about body contact in our great game. The program has not been developed, but we know we will need ice time. The money will go towards that ice time. We feel we can’t control how the referees call the games and we can’t control what the other teams’ players do on the ice. What we can do is to educate our players on how to use legal body contact. We can also teach our players how to prepare, avoid, accept and give body contact. We feel strongly that this education is a proactive response to the recent physical tragedies in hockey.
The games are on 95.9 FM radio. The link to the online broadcast is: http://www.mnsportsnetwork.com/index.php#msbnchannel1
