What's the PDC been up to this summer?

The PDC has been hard at work this summer in order to get new things in place for the upcoming 2011-12 hockey season.  We are happy to say that Aaron Forsythe, FL Varsity Hockey Coach, is taking a more active role in the PDC this season.  His input is greatly appreciated.

The PDC recently proposed to the FLHA, many changes to the current hockey program that we strongly feel will promote athletic development.  Some of these changes include enforcing the recommended practice to game ratios, cross ice training for the younger age groups, shifting the time of the season and days the younger mites play to open up ice for the older kids, increasing ice times to one and a half hours for many of the PeeWee/U12 and older practices, and decreased team sizes.  For more detailed information feel free to email anyone on the PDC.

Also this season, the PDC will work in conjunction with the CSC to offer a new coaches evaluation/process.  It was trialed with a few teams last year.  Our goal is to get more input from parents, assistant coaches, and coaches themselves in order to get a clearer picture of how coaches are doing and areas where we can offer education.   For more info on the new process feel free to email Pete Carlile, CSC Chair.

This season the PDC will be requiring coaches to perform player evaluations.  All coaches will be required to use the tool set up by the PDC.  The first eval will be done at the start of the season and the other at the end of the season.  This should offer some good data as to each player's development, help coaches formulate season/practice plans, help coaches work with players to make individual goals, and also allow the CSC/PDC to look at trends in coaching where further education may be valuable.

And for those who may not have heard, USA Hockey did vote to remove checking from the PeeWee level.  For more information go to www.usahockey.com look under "Education and Training" tab then under "Body Checking Rule".

Look for an upcoming Mandatory Coaches (and assistant) Meeting with the PDC.     Date: TBA. At this time we anticipate early November maybe Wed 4th or Fri 6th.  We will let you know when the final date is determined.

Player Evaluation Forms

Coaches are responsible for printing out eval forms (see below) for each skater

Note that the goalie eval form below will not be used during the 2011-12 season since GDI will be doing goalie evals. The PDC chose to include it as a "guide" for coaches.

Key: the addition of skills in color = new skills added to that level of play
