Forest Lake 15UB Qualifies for State Tournament
Congratulations to 15UB on qualifying for the 2020 Minnesota State Hockey Tournament!
Forest Lake entered the weekend regional as the number one seed from District 2. Friday’s opening game was against Edina, an opponent that the 15’s have lost to twice this season. The girls came out determined and jumped to a 2-0 lead after one period of play. They never looked back and defeated the Hornets 7-2.
Saturday morning the 15’s played Minnetonka which has defeated them twice this season. The Skippers are well stocked up and down their lineup and the girls were down 3-0 after two periods of play. Physical play and tight defense from the Skippers proved to much for the girls and they fell to Minnetonka 6-1.
Saturday evening the 15’s season and chance for a State bid was on the line against Waconia. A tight back and forth game saw Forest Lake leading 2-0 after two periods of play. Waconia continued to put the pressure on and pulled within one midway through the third period. Paige Rogers breakaway goal late in the third and Ava Johnson’s empty net for the hat trick stamped Forest Lakes ticket to the State Tournament with a 4-1 win.
Sunday’s afternoon seeding game was against Brainerd-Little Falls who played the season as an A team but was able to drop down to B after a rough season. Another strong team their defense was hard to break. The 15’s had their opportunities, but puck luck wasn’t on their side and the girls lost 4-1 after a late empty net goal.
The 15’s will be playing in the Minnesota State Hockey Tournament in Rochester starting Friday, March 13th. Their opening opponent will be against top ranked Elk River. Good luck at State 15’s.
Peewee B2 Maroon took home 3rd place in the 16 team Bemidji Tournament held January 31- February 2, 2020. Maroon won their pool by beating Bemidji, Becker/Big Lake and Duluth East. In the Championship Bracket, Maroon lost to Minneapolis Storm- Purple before beating Waconia 5-2 to take 3rd Place in the Tournament.

The Rangers had a good first game defeating St. Cloud by the score of 4-2, lost a tight one to Eden Prairie 4-2 (with an empty net goal),
and bounced back to overcome a 3 goal deficit to win 5-3 vs Apple
Valley/Burnsville and take home the third place trophy!

Mite 4 Rangers Maroon takes Championship at the Quinn Cup in Edina!
On Saturday morning the team played Westonka in the main Braemar rink, winning 7-2. Saturday afternoon was a closer game with a triumph against Edina White 2-1. Sunday was the battle of the unbeatens, Rangers versus Edina Green. Rangers played at an unbelievable pace with a victory against Edina’s top mite team 5-2! Coaches Randy Johnson, Mike Borene & Tom Carney have done a great job bringing the players together as a team.
Congratulations to Squirt B2 Gold on their Consolation Championship Win at the Bob O'Connor Tournament in Edina today!
Squirt B2 Gold started out he weekend on Friday facing Edina B2 Gold. They kept the game close but lost 5-3, putting them into the Consolation Bracket.
Saturday morning they were up and ready to go against district rival White Bear Lake B2 Orange. These teams had met a week before in district play which ended in a 1-1 tie. The Rangers weren't settling for a tie this round. They came out ready to play with commanded a 5-2 victory at the end.
With parents battling the heavy snow to get to the arena, the final game for the Consolation Championship pitted Squirt B2 Gold against another district rival Mahtomedi. The Rangers were up 2-0 half-way through the first period and never looked back and took the Consolation Championship Game by a final score of 6-2.

Peewee B2 Maroon headed for Sauk Rapids January 17-19th for the Sauk Rapids Tournament. On Friday night the team played Mora at the National Sports Center in St Cloud, winning 7-0. On Saturday the team beat Becker-Big Lake 9-2 and was victorious over Sauk Rapids 12-0 to win their pool. Sunday's championship game was against District 2 rivals, the St Paul Capitals. Rangers came out strong and won 10-0 to win the championship.
Forest Lake 12UB faced Lakeville 12UB Black and FL had #42 Kiera Peek in net.
1st Period- Lakeville got a goal 2 minutes into the game. With 0:01 seconds left of the 1st period FL #25 Hailey Kensy got an elbowing penalty. Period 1 ended FL 0 - LV 1.
2nd Period- FL #92 Alivia Haley scored an unassisted goal, tying up the game. With 2:55 left in the period FL #66 Madeline Leroux got a checking penalty. Lakeville followed shortly after getting a goal. Period 2 ended FL 1 - LV 2.
3rd Period- With 4 minutes left of game regulation FL #27 Audrey Haanpaa got a goal assisted by FL #10 Kalissa Kline and FL #92 Alivia Haley, tying the game up again. Period 3 ended FL 2 - LV 2.
Per Tournament rules there was no extra period for ties (for Friday or Saturday games.) It went straight into a shootout.
Lakeville started out the shootout and FL #42 Kiera Peek blocked the shot. FL #27 Audrey Haanpaa was up for FL and she scored. Lakeville went to shoot again and FL #42 Kiera Peek blocked the shot again. Up next for FL was #18 Leyna "Bob" Halvorson and she scored.
The Forest Lake 12UB Rangers ended up winning 3-2.
Forest Lake 12UB faced Elk River 12UB and FL started with #12 Jayden Laskow in net.
1st Period- ER started the game off with a tripping penalty and when they went full strength they scored. FL #88 Annamaris Studier followed shortly after with an unassisted goal, tying up the game. Period 1 ended FL 1 - ER 1.
2nd Period- ER had an interference penalty. Period 2 ended FL 1 - ER 1.
3rd Period- Was very exciting. FL #92 Alivia Haley got a hooking penalty 1 minute into the period. ER then scored 2:55 into the period. Then FL #7 Isabella Eberhardt got a roughing penalty along with ER, for an offsetting penalty. ER then got another penalty. FL #27 Audrey Haanpaa got a goal assisted by FL #5 Lillian Houle. FL #12 Jayden Laskow ended up getting a hand injury taking her out of the game. FL had #42 Kiera Peek put in as goalie. FL #88 Annamaris Studier got a checking penalty and 0.12 seconds later ER scored. FL followed 2 minutes later with a goal by FL #92 Alivia Haley assisted by FL #5 Lillian Houle, to tie it up with 2 minutes left of the game. Period 3 ended FL 3 - ER 3.
Per Tournament rules again, there was no extra period for ties and it went straight into a shootout.
FL #5 Lillian Houle started off the shootout and scored. ER then shot and was blocked by #42 Kiera Peek. FL #88 Annamaris Studier was next and was not able to get the puck in. ER was up and scored. FL #66 Madeline Leroux shot and scored. ER was they last to go and the shot was blocked by #42 Kiera Peek.
The FL Rangers ended up winning 4-3.
Forest Lake 12UB faced Centennial 12UB and FL had #42 Kiera Peek in net for the Championship game.
1st Period- Was a battle and FL #27 Audrey Haanpaa got a goal assisted by FL #18 Leyna "Bob" Halvorson with 8 seconds left of the period. Period 1 ended FL 1 - Cen 0.
2nd Period- FL #92 Alivia Haley got a goal assisted by FL #18 Leyna "Bob" Halvorson. Period 2 ended FL 2 - Cen 0.
3rd Period- Centennial came in wanting to fight back. They scored 1 minute into the period and followed by another goal with 4 minutes left of the game, tying the game up. Then with 2:22 left FL #7 Isabella Eberhardt scored assisted by #10 Kalissa Kline to win the game. Period 3 ended FL 3 - Cen 2.
What a great weekend. Our FL 12UB team went in and gave it all they could! Congratulations girls for a well deserved 1st place!
The U10 B team takes 3rd at the Breezy Point Ice Fest Tournament.
Game 1 was a tough loss against NWC White 4-1, with Kaelyn Kohoutek scoring the lone goal. Game 2 against Edina the girls took the win 4-0 with goalie Sophia Stender getting her first shut out of the season! Goals scored by Burkley Kneeland, Eden Bottem, Kaelyn Kohoutek and Sofia Eberhardt. Game 3 saw the girls facing Stillwater Red, who had gotten the best of them on two previous meet ups. Forest Lake came out strong and victorious, beating Stillwater 3-2, with a goal from Burkley Kneeland and 2 from Isabella Longen. Game 4 the girls beat Buffalo 3-0 with another great shutout from Sophia Stender and goals scored by Burkley Kneeland, Kaelyn Kohoutek and Sofia Eberhardt. The girls clinched the 3rd place trophy with a decisive 4-0 win over NWC Red, with goals from Hadley Roche, Alyson Santama, Sofia Eberhardt and Kristen Weinert and an impressive THIRD shutout of the tourney for Sophia Stender!

Forest Lake Squirt B1 brings home the Championship at the OMGHA Squirt Extravaganza!
Game 1 was against undefeated Chaska-Chanhassen. Rangers battled and won that game 5-1. Goals were scored by Kellen Melberg, 2 by Colton Stang, Brixton Kraft, and Brody Meister. Assists by Owen Siverhus, Levi Daley, Brody Meister and 2 assists by Kellen Melberg.
Game 2 was against the home team OMG Gold and ended in another win for the Rangers with a score of 3-1. Those goals were scored by Max Meister, Brody Meister, and Derrick Loomis, assists by Brixton Kraft, Jack Pavlas, and Kellen Melberg.
Game 3 was vs. Elk River and ended in another win for the Rangers with the score of 2-0. 1st goal scored by Kellen Melberg assisted by Max Meister and 2nd goal scored by Brody Meister assisted by Colton Stang. Great job to goalie Gage Winkler on the shut out!
Game 4 was vs. the home town OMG White. Rangers pulled off another win and won with a score of 8-3. Those goals were scored by Leo Schipper, Brixton Kraft, Kellen Melberg, Blake Langer, Brody Meister, and a hat trick by Colton Stang! Assists by Levi Daley, Colton Stang, Blake Langer, Max Meister, and Owen Siverhus.
Game 5 ended up being a rematch against Chaska-Chanhassen for the championship. They came hungry for revenge! 1st period ended 0-0. 2nd period Derrick Loomis shot one of his notorious power shots and Brody Meister was there and ready for the rebound with 0.8 seconds left in the period making it 1-0! The entire 3rd period the Rangers were able to hold that score even after CC pulled their goalie in hopes of scoring with 6 skaters. NOPE! Between the strong goalie Gage Winkler and the Championship on the minds of the Rangers they won the game with a score of 1-0.
Way to go Rangers! They received complements from other teams on how they play as a team and are fun to watch! Great representation of Forest Lake.
Congratulations to the 12U A team for taking 3rd place in the Bemidji tournament. Game 1 against Bemidji the girls took the win 7-0 with Taylor Thompson getting a shut out. Game 2 the girls beat Albert Lea 5-1. Game 3 was a tough loss against Moorehead 7-1, which put them playing for 3rd place on Sunday for game 4. Game 4 for 3rd place against Brainerd/Little Falls was an intense one, but Forest Lake takes the win with Samantha Scott making the only goal of the game and Taylor Thompson getting her second shut out of the tournament. Congratulations on 3rd place!
