Forest Lake 15UB Qualifies for State Tournament

Congratulations to 15UB on qualifying for the 2020 Minnesota State Hockey Tournament!

Forest Lake entered the weekend regional as the number one seed from District 2.  Friday’s opening game was against Edina, an opponent that the 15’s have lost to twice this season.  The girls came out determined and jumped to a 2-0 lead after one period of play.  They never looked back and defeated the Hornets 7-2.

Saturday morning the 15’s played Minnetonka which has defeated them twice this season.  The Skippers are well stocked up and down their lineup and the girls were down 3-0 after two periods of play.  Physical play and tight defense from the Skippers proved to much for the girls and they fell to Minnetonka 6-1.

Saturday evening the 15’s season and chance for a State bid was on the line against Waconia.  A tight back and forth game saw Forest Lake leading 2-0 after two periods of play.  Waconia continued to put the pressure on and pulled within one midway through the third period.  Paige Rogers breakaway goal late in the third and Ava Johnson’s empty net for the hat trick stamped Forest Lakes ticket to the State Tournament with a 4-1 win.

Sunday’s afternoon seeding game was against Brainerd-Little Falls who played the season as an A team but was able to drop down to B after a rough season.  Another strong team their defense was hard to break.  The 15’s had their opportunities, but puck luck wasn’t on their side and the girls lost 4-1 after a late empty net goal.

The 15’s will be playing in the Minnesota State Hockey Tournament in Rochester starting Friday, March 13th.  Their opening opponent will be against top ranked Elk River.  Good luck at State 15’s.
