Why am I not getting emails from Forest Lake Hockey?

Why am I not getting emails from Forest Lake Hockey?

This is common question that is asked of the Directors, Webmaster, and Team Managers.

The Forest Lake Hockey Association uses SportsEngine. SportsEngine provides management tools for teams and associations for many different sports and many different associations.

One of the advantages (and one of the challenges) is that YOU have complete control over how you are messaged. You can have different notification methods for each child and for each sport or organization for which they are a part. Forest Lake Hockey cannot see, and cannot change how you are notified through SportsEngine. You can.

Missing emails are usually due to one of three things:

1. Your primary email address changed recently and not everything was updated and notification were not changed for your skaters profile.
2. Individual profiles have different notification methods that were accidentally enabled or disabled at some point in the past.
3. You did the registration of your skater last year with your account and their other parent/guardian did it this year with their account.
4. Parents of the Skaters are separated

Usually the first two can be easily resolved by logging in to your SportsEngine account through http://www.flhockey.org and updating updating your primary email address, validating the contact methods for each sub-profile (skater) and then making sure that you've let Forest Lake Hockey use those methods. It may sound a little bit complicated, but SportsEngine has an excellent tutorial on this at https://help.sportsengine.com/customer/portal/articles/2765880

For the third item and fourth item, there is an additional step that requires action from both accounts.  SportsEngine allows adding additional Guardians to profiles (This was formerly called a "linked profile").  This is where a profile is associated with two accounts. You can have two separate methods of notification for different people. This covers the case noted above where different parents did the registration different years, but can also cover situations where the parents are separated. It also allows for both accounts to RSVP to team events, participate in team chats through SportsEngine, and to be able to register and get credit for Dibs shifts.

It requires that the account that did the registration add the email address of the other account or parent to the skater's profile as a Guardian.   You'll login to http://www.flhockey.org, select the profile that you want to share with someone else, and send them an invitation email which then can either create their own SportsEngine account or add that profile to their existing account. Again, SportsEngine has a great tutorial on how to do this. You can find it at https://help.sportsengine.com/en/articles/314

One thing that linking sometimes does, or may happen if you accidentally create a new profile during registration is that you'll have two profiles for the same child. You can delete old, unused ones, but SportsEngine provides the ability to merge those duplicates if you want. Instructions there can be found at https://help.sportsengine.com/en/articles/1726

Please feel free to reach out to the Forest Lake Hockey Association Webmaster at webmaster@flhockey.org if have any questions.
