Certification Deadline
All coaches must be certified to their appropriate level. It is important that you carry your Certification Card with you any time you are on the ice. Deadline is December 31st!
Coach Requirements
Once you have been selected to be a coach (head or assistant), you must register with FLHA as a coach. It is extremely important for our coaching volunteers to become certified each season. Steps 1-5 below MUST be met before a coach can be rostered and be on the ice with their team.
If you have not completed all required steps you cannot be on the official USAH roster or on the ice/on the bench for any on-ice team event.
Again, Steps 1-5 must be completed before coaches can be rostered. Step 6 should be completed a soon as possible. Step 7 has a hard deadline of December 31 - classes fill quickly so register without delay.
To register, coaches must complete below:
- Complete the USA Hockey Registration required annually prior to participating in any team activity. Save your USA Hockey number as you will need it for additional requirements.
- Create a Participant Profile for yourself on your Crossbar account.
- Complete the FLHA Volunteer Registration which requires your USA Hockey number. Once you have created a profile and provided us with your USA Hockey number, we will be able to help you track your other requirements.
- Complete Electronic Background Screening which is required every 2 years. If the number doesn't auto-populate, the Self Registration ID Numbers is 35615801. Coaches NEED to complete their background screening BEFORE allowed on the ice.
- Complete Safesport training required annually prior to participating in team activity. In some cases, this will be a "refresher" course, so don't let yours expire!
- Complete USA Hockey Age Specific Module for each level you will be coaching. IF you have completed an online specific age module in a previous year, you do not have to re-take that module. Your previous completed modules can be found in the USA Hockey Online Coaches Certification list.
- Complete USA Hockey Coaching Education Program (CEP) by December 31st. Your CEP level must be up-to-date and appropriate for the level you are coaching. IF your CEP is expiring YOU MUST find the next available class online and complete on or before December 31.
- EXCEPTION: Coaches of Mites/8U or younger may remain at Level 1 or their current level even if it has expired.
- Travel teams: If your level has or will expire, you need to proceed to the next level. CEP levels 1, 2, and 3 clinics are now provided virtually and you can register for a clinic that is provided in another state.
- IMPORTANT: IF you DO NOT complete the required CEP level on/before December 31, you will be removed from your roster and no longer eligible to coach (or get Dibs) for the remainder of the season.
Once registered, contact the Secretary with the team you are coaching to enable editing rights to the team(s) page. Access will not be granted to unregistered coaches.
Coaches are eligible to be reimbursed for their USA Hockey Registration Fee, USA Hockey Background Check, Age Specific Module, & CEP course. To be eligible for reimbursement, your receipts must be uploaded using the submission links below. Email submissions of receipts will not be accepted.
