Mites / 8U
Mite / 8U hockey is where the journey begins for players aged 8 and under. Focused on fun, fundamentals, and teamwork, this level introduces young skaters to the basics of the game through small-area play, skill-building drills, and plenty of smiles. It’s all about developing a love for hockey in a supportive, high-energy environment.
Ages
Mite 1: Boys & Girls Team in 1st Grade & 6 or younger
Mite 2: Boys & Girls Team in 2nd Grade & 7 or younger
Mite 3: Boys & Girls Team in 3rd Grade & 8 or younger
Mite 4: Boys & Girls Team filled by evaluation only
8U Level 1: Girls Only Team in 1st Grade & 6 or younger
8U Level 2: Girls Only Team in 2nd Grade & 7 or younger
8U Level 3: Girls Only Team in 3rd Grade & 8 or younger
8U Level 4: Girls Only Team filled by evaluation only

- There are no goalie discounts at the Mite / 8U level as all players are expected to play goalie throughout the season.
- A late fee of $100 applies to all returning FLHA players that register after August 10th.
Birth Certificate (New Players Only)
New players to Forest Lake Hockey Association will need to submit a photocopy of their Birth Certificate to the Secretary in order to participate in their team's first ice session. Please reach out to the Secretary if you have any questions
Player Waivers
Players that live OUTSIDE the official Forest Lake School District boundaries must complete a waiver form and submit it to FLHA before participating in any Forest Lake Hockey Association activities. This will need to be completed each year unless a permanent waiver is on file.
Player Evaluations
- All players that register for Mites & 8U level 1 through level 3 will be evaluated at the beginning of the season to insure they are in the proper skill level.
- The top players in the Mites & 8U level 3 group will be given an invitation to be evaluated for the Level 4 teams at the end of the level 3 evaluations.
- Only those players that are given an invitation will be eligible to be evaluated for the level 4 teams.
- There is no evaluation fee for the Mite and 8U teams.
Practices
Practices can take place at any of the following rinks:
- Forest Lake Sports Center - Hallberg North (Primary)
- Forest Lake Sports Center - Hallberg South (Primary)
- National Sports Center Super Rink - Rinks 1 - 8 (Secondary)
- Lumberyard (Secondary)
Games / Jamborees
- Each team will receive an allocation of ice time at the Lumberyard in Stillwater to schedule games on the mini-rink
- Teams also can coordinate with other FLHA teams to bring in outside teams to play during a regularly scheduled practice.
- Each team will participate in either the Forest Lake Sponsored Flake Jam or Spring Jam depending on the teams.
- Limitations on the number of games and jamborees a team can participate in will be communicated to the managers/coaches at the beginning of the season.
Extra Teams Costs
Costs for the items below will be coordinated through each team's Manager and will be above and beyond the costs collected during registration:
- Non-FLHA Jamborees
- Team Activities or Meals
- Team Scheduled Player Development
Extra Player Costs
In addition to the extra team costs listed, the registration fee does not cover the items below:
- Fall Clinic
- Specialty Individually Registered Program Fees
- Volunteer Hours Program Fees
- Player Apparel
Jerseys
Players are given matching team jerseys & socks by FLHA at the start of the season.
Volunteer Hours Program
Families of Mite / 8U players WILL be required to participate in the Volunteer Hours Program. More details on the program can be found on the Volunteer Hours Program page.
